Françoise Gnéri (France)
Appointed in 2009 viola professor at CNSMD Lyon, Françoise Gnéri is a musician with an eclectic and original career, distinguished by her passionate commitment to the most varied projects. Soloist at the Paris Opera Orchestra for a few years, she collaborated with the greatest conductors (Seiji Osawa, Georges Priest, Myung-Whun Chung) and developed a sense of lyricism and drama that became an integral part of her musicianship. Her intense chamber music activity and her profound knowledge of 20th century music led her to perform on the most important French stages (Chatelet, Radio-France, Champs Elysées Theater, Beaubourgc.) and abroad (Bremen, Venice, Lisbon, Tokyo, New York) where she performed with artists such as Philip Hirschorn, Christoph Henkel, Roland Pidoux, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Maxim Vengerov, Bruno Pasquier, François Salque, Claire Desert, Olivier Charlier, Marianne Piketty, Ophélie Gaillard. She recorded Brahms’ sonatas and Schumann’s violin and piano sonata, transcribed to the viola, which were received with critical acclaim. She has also recorded the 6 suites of J. S. Bach at Polymnie. She plays on a viola of Raphael and Anton Gagliano of 1856 and on a viola of Charotte of 1837.
