Yuval Gotlibovich: Award-Winning Violist, Composer, and Film Scorer

Yuval Gotlibovich has earned top recognition worldwide, securing First Prize at the prestigious Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition (UK), the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (USA), and the Aviv Competition (Israel).

His signature project is creating and performing original scores for silent-era films live in concert, a work presented across Europe in film and music festivals. These acclaimed collaborations have featured leading European artists such as cellists Yoni Gotlibovich and David Cohen, flutist Janne Thomasen, and bassist Rick Stotjin.

Gotlibovich is a highly sought-after soloist and chamber musician, appearing frequently in Europe’s major venues and festivals.

As a recording artist, his Naxos debut CD, featuring viola works by Ramon Paus, was an immediate international success, ranking among the top 10 best-sellers worldwide for Naxos in its release month. His most recent releases include a double album dedicated to the viola music of Menachem Wiesenberg. Furthermore, his unique arrangement of Bach’s Goldberg Variations in different musical styles, recorded for Sony Classical, also received critical acclaim. His highly anticipated next project is the first recording of the concerto by the late Antón García Abril with the Real Filharmonía Galicia.

Gotlibovich’s Sonata for viola and piano left hand gained international attention following its Tokyo premiere with renowned violist Nobuko Imai and pianist Izumi Tateno. The work has since been a featured piece at the World Viola Congress and performed widely across Japan and Europe by various violists, including the composer himself.

A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Gotlibovich has worked closely with seminal composers including Krzysztof Penderecki, Henri Dutilleux, and Sofia Gubaidulina, among many others.

A former student of his mentor Atar Arad at Indiana University, Yuval Gotlibovich subsequently joined the faculty there. He currently resides in Spain and holds prestigious teaching positions at the Conservatories of Lugano (Switzerland) and Barcelona (Spain).
